During the report term, there were a total of 19 people
interviewed for the full-time vacancies.
Internship
Program
The WTVI internship is unpaid and offered
year-round. The internship program is an opportunity for interested individuals
to participate in a supervised on-the-job learning experience. The program
provides the chance to learn the difference between what the participant thinks
a job is and what it really is.
WTVIÕs internship opportunity is designed to
combine academic studies with on-the job training and experience. Internships
are available in all departments, and students work with trained professionals
who will provide industry insight and professional coaching. Paulette Martin-Whitfield,
Vice-President of Administration, coordinates the program. During the reporting period 20 interns
participated.
In addition, WTVI participated in the City of
Charlotte MayorÕs Youth Employment Program, by hosting one high school students
for 8 weeks. WTVI created a meaningful employment opportunity for the students,
in which they gained an understanding of career demands, skill sets and
qualifications required in the workforce.
Job
Shadowing
WTVI hosted a Job Shadowing Day. 15 Charlotte-Mecklenburg
High School/Communities in Schools students spent a day at the station. The
WTVI Staff made presentations on their careers at WTVI. The students also observed a studio
production.
Job Fairs
WTVI participated in 7 job fairs, all of which were
designed to connect motivated students with experienced professionals in a
variety of field including television/broadcasting and communications.
